Air mattress is a type of mattress that people who have to lie down for a long time have to use.
The use of air mattress is especially important for patients with loss and restriction of movement.
People who have to lie down for a long time with limited mobility use air mattresses, especially to protect themselves from bedsores.
Among the types of air mattresses, the most well-known models are diamond type air mattress and pipe type air mattresses.
These air mattress models are different versions of inflatable sea beds.
When it comes to air beds, the first thing that comes to mind as the biggest disadvantages is that they do not offer comfort to the patient and do not create a monolithic lying surface.
Another major disadvantage for these air mattress models is the reduction of the lying area. While the weight of a patient lying on the back or side position is constant, the area where the pressure occurs is halved.
Let's say that the weight of a 60 kg patient is distributed over an area of 100 cm2 in any lying position. When the patient is at the same weight, the lying surface can be reduced to 50 cm in these air mattresses. This means that there is an extra 2-fold pressure in the areas next to the area where there is a wound or risk of wound.
Considering that the reason for the formation of bedsores in air mattresses or normal mattresses is the slowing or stopping of blood flow as a result of narrowing or blockage of the circulatory system; it would be correct to say that reducing the pressure in the area where the bedsore occurs alone will not work.
If it is aimed to protect a bedsore area by creating a low pressure area, extra and large pressures in the side areas should be avoided. These two air mattress models cannot provide this purpose.
This problem grows even more in positioning air mattress models. This is because when a 60 kg patient is positioned sideways with mechanical movements, the load falls on a much smaller area and on the most risky areas with bone protrusions.
For this reason, while trying to heal the bedsores on the coccyx in a large part of the inpatients, wounds also occur in the side areas.
BedAiD air mattresses do not allow high pressure in the side areas thanks to the visco-elastic material used while providing low pressure area.
The materials used in different densities provide a comfortable lying opportunity.
Massage and ventilation system is not available in any air mattress system in the world.
